Introduction 19 --------------- 20 21 eZ publish 3 requires two programs to create and maintain translations, 22 'ezlupdate' and 'linguist'. These programs are based on the same tools from the 23 Qt toolkit by Trolltech (www.trolltech.com). The unix version of this toolkit 24 is released under the GPL. eZ systems will provide binaries for Windows and 25 Mac OS X. 26 The linguist is unmodified from the Qt original, so you also can get this from 27 other sources, such as RPMs. ezlupdate is modified to make it understand 28 eZ publish files. 29 30 31 32 1. Building the program 33 ----------------------- 34 35 The linguist is not provided with eZ publish 3, as this is distributed in the 36 Qt library available from Trolltech. 37 38 The following assumes that you are building under unix. If you have a 39 commercial licence of Qt for Windows and/or Mac OS X, you can build it in a 40 similar way. If you don't have such a licence, you can get binaries from 41 eZ systems. 42 43 First, make sure that you have the Qt library installed. If you use a package 44 system such as RPM, make sure that you also have the qt-devel package. 45 46 If you build ezlupdate against the Qt/X11 library, it will require X11 to run, 47 even though it is a console program. If you have installed eZ publish on a 48 server without X11 it is recommended that you build ezlupdate against 49 Qt/embedded. 50 51 Build instructions: 52 53 cd support/lupdate-ezpublish3 54 qmake ezlupdate.pro 55 make 56 57 If everything went ok, the binary will be found in bin/linux under the main 58 eZ publish directory. 59 60 61 62 2. Making translations 63 ---------------------- 64 65 First of all, you must decide the locale code of your language. eZ publish 3 66 uses locale codes on the form aaa-AA, where the 3 first lowercase letters 67 describe the language, while the last two uppercase letter describe the country 68 in which the language is spoken. For instance, English as it is spoken in Great 69 Britain would be eng-GB, while US English is eng-US. 70 71 Countries are specified by the ISO 3166 Country Code 72 http://www.iso.ch/iso/en/prods-services/iso3166ma/index.html 73 74 Language is specified by the ISO 639 Language Code 75 http://www.w3.org/WAI/ER/IG/ert/iso639.htm 76 77 You can also create a variation of a locale, you will for instance find two 78 variations of nor-NO, nor-NO@intl and nor-NO@spraakraad, that are slight modofications of the original. 79 80 For the rest of this part, I assume you are translating nor-NO. 81 82 Copy share/locale/eng-GB.ini to share/locale/nor-NO.ini. Edit this file with a 83 text editor. Here you set locale details such as time formats, currency and the 84 names of the week days. 85 86 Now, enter the main eZ publish directory in a terminal and type 87 bin/linux/ezlupdate -v nor-NO 88 (Provided that nor-NO is your locale, of course. -v is for verbose, showing 89 messages about what happens. You can also use -vv for extra verbose output, or 90 omit it for silent behavior. Run bin/linux/ezlupdate -h for an explanation of 91 the arguments. 92 93 You will now find a translation in share/translations/nor-NO/translation.ts or 94 similar for other locales. Open this file in linguist and do the translation. 95 96 You will find documentation for linguist on Trolltechs page: 97 http://doc.trolltech.com/3.0/linguist-manual-3.html 98 99 When you are done translating in linguist, open settings/site.ini. Go to the 100 section [RegionalSettings] and set Locale=nor-NO to translate the interface, 101 and ContentObjectLocale=nor-NO if you want to set the language of content 102 objects. Finally, set TextTranslation=enabled, or the default (eng-GB) will be 103 used. 104 105 To distribute your translation, create a compressed archive, for instance .zip 106 or tar.gz, of these two files: 107 share/locale/nor-NO.ini 108 share/translations/nor-NO/translation.ts 109 110 You can also use the shell script bin/shell/makei18ndist.sh to do this. 111 112 113 Please see the translation tutorial on http://ez.no/sdk for more information.
